W3C Compliance for Websites and Portals
2008-05-16
Many, I assume, are not aware of what W3C compliance stands for. I first came across this term while my Web Designer friends were chatting about a particular problem they were having with the website client. I was curious about what this word meant and egoistic enough not to ask my friends to explain it to me. So, I did what most of us do in today's world - I went to Google and looked it up.
Here is a small and simple explanation about W3C for people who want to get a brief idea of what it is all about. W3C stands for World Wide Web Consortium. Meeting W3C standards help web sites and portals rank better during Google searches and also allow the page ranks of the particular site to go up. W3C provides a basic guideline telling websites and portals how they should be structured and designed. This includes navigation within the website, consistency between all related web pages on the same site, URL naming, and also website content based on web page links. Compliance to W3C guidelines improves accessibility of the website through not only the computer, but also through various other devices such as PDAs and mobile phones.
I was just browsing the web and came across a press release about a car portal that is the FIRST Indian Car Portal with W3C compliance. I checked out their website and they have advertised the fact on their Home Page footer. I browsed through the site and was impressed with what they have got on it. I suggest you check it out as an example.
